Call them what you will: Alternative girls, goth girls, emo girls, whatever, the point is that they’re all the rage nowadays, in stark contrast to some 20-30 years ago when girls with this style were exceptionally rare, not only in media but in real life as well. That’s right, back in the 2000s, 90s, and earlier, when you encountered a girl with tattoos and piercings, you knew right from the get-go that she was most likely some kind of drug-addled band groupie who couldn’t wait to get backstage and hook up with the lead singer of some hardcore band. Their unique look was a dead giveaway of the sort of lifestyle they lived, which, for all intents and purposes, wasn’t a very nice one. These kinds of girls were often scorned and shunned by normies, and to religious folk, they looked like they crawled straight out of hell. Whereas normie glam girls a la Paris Hilton were the main focus back then, and they’re pretty much the polar opposite of these aforementioned alt babes.

Of course, the metalheads and hardcore dudes of today would call them posers, as dressing up this way doesn’t mean that you live this sort of lifestyle, but then again, most if not all of today’s youth who dress this way, including actual band members, would be considered posers by their predecessors who looked exactly like them some 20-30 years ago.
So why are there so many goth, alt, and emo girls today despite the fact that nearly all of them would be labelled by metalheads and hardcore purists alike as posers who are just faking it for attention? Well, the answer is simple; this look is undeniably hot and very popular among younger modern-day men. Even guys who aren’t even remotely into the emo, metal, or punk scenes want to bag themselves a goth baddie, as the more dangerous and unstable a female looks, the more attractive she is to the male gaze, and vice versa. You’ve probably seen your fair share of goth girl memes online at this point, so it’s safe to say that this look has become as mainstream as can be.
